This review is from: Olive O3HD 500GB Music Server (Silver) (Electronics)
I have the 2TB version and it basically does what is advertised - some of it better than others. Olive did a passable job of ripping 100 CD's (about 70 were done right) as part of the purchase. The metadata onboarding by Olive was ok, I had to fix most of it by hand. Olive provides a browser-based application called maestro to "help" with this process - pretty badly written application, needs to be restarted every now and then. Think of something about 10 times harder to use than itunes. Once you've onboarded your music with CD quality, the backup to an external 2TB drive was pretty painless (takes overnight) - as long as you have a FAT32 formatted 2TB drive (not so easy to purchase any more). Pretty silent in operation, the D/A converter seems to be of high quality. The most irritating aspect of this device is the touch-screen control display - Olive basically seems to think that you shouldn't use the display, but rather an iphone app. Well - why not get the onboard touch screen to work as well as the one on the iphone?? My fingers aren't particularly fat, yet choosing a menu item requires incredible patience and precision - or you end up selecting an option you never wanted. The menu and font designs, the screen sensitivity - pretty bad. This seems like partly a hardware issue, because after several software upgrades this "feature" shows no sign of improving. There's definitely a market for the functionality provided by the Olive server; thus the product specification is about right. Unfortunately, the Olive implementation leaves much to be desired.
