The name is legendary, after all. I loved my machine when I got it. LOVED it! I Didn't really need all the stitches, but I felt so good about having them. Just in case I wanted to do something fancy. A few months before the warranty went out, however, I found myself unable to change the stitch. Okay, so maybe I don't need button hole stitches or flower petal stitches, but zig-zag is a must! So, I contacted Singer and was given instructions to trouble shoot and it worked! Hooray, right? Once the warranty went out, however, the same problem happened again. And the troubleshooting no longer worked. So, I have one stitch, and 29 others that just sit there and mock me. I guess I'll just have to get by.

If only it all ended there.

As I sew, I have to stop periodically and measure the needle position to make sure it's still where I set it. One would think the needle would remain in place until moved. It doesn't. I also have to keep an eye on the stitch spacing. The machine seems to slowly space the stitches out further and further without the setting being changed. If I want to change the setting for the needle position or stitches, which I often must to get it back where I want it, I have to slide the knob-button-whatever back and forth and back and forth until it starts beeping and the light comes on to let me know it's going to respond. Once I get it to recognize that it needs to adjust, can I just set it on the number I had it on before? Of course not! You have to keep moving it and trying it out to get the stitch spacing and needle position where you want them.

And now the back-stitching has gone out. No work. No respond. No way.

This goes beyond the annoyance of not being able to use a bunch of stitches I probably would never have used anyway. I've had the darn thing for 2.5 years, oiled it, used good thread, gave it everything it asked for and it still doesn't work. I guess I could take it to repair, but would it be worth it? I shouldn't have to pay to repair something that failed to work within a year. Plus, I came on here to see if anyone else had the same problem. It looks like most owners of this hunk of junk have problems--but not the same ones! So, if you decide to toss your money away on this, you'll be playing the frustration lottery. I'm waiting for Black Friday at Hancock's to see what kind of Bernina or Janome I can get on sale. 'Cause this is not working out for me.

I hate my Singer.
